I originally wrote this as a comment, but decided to post it as a review as well.I have just started reading this very important book that will help to open a new understanding of how our genes work, however I was dismayed to find a serious error on page 29. I am inclined to think it was overlooked in the editing process, but it does shake my confidence about what is to come in future pages. It is stated there: "This little sketch of our DNA's structure may sound simple, but what complicates the work of sequencing the entire human genome is that each gene is made up of more than 3 billion pairs of these bases from each of your parents." This is just flat wrong as any high school sophomore biology student would recognize. He probably meant to say "each set of 46 chromosomes" instead of "each gene" Other references to the genome in the book are correct. Unfortunate that someone didn't catch that before publication.
This book is for anyone interested in improving their health through various means such as lifestyle. It shows how genes are switches that we can turn on or off.
Dr. Pelletier has a way of presenting important yet complex medical information in a way that the everyday person can understand. The information in this book is potentially life changing. I've purchased copies for two of my doctors, one of who commented to me that he was "doomed because of bad family genes of cardiovascular disease." I was delighted to buy him this book, which could save his life.Thank you Dr. Pelletier for this gift!
As the science around genes has developed over the past 10 years, I'm finding much of what I was taught in school is wrong. We are learning that our lifestyle has much more meaning toward how our genes express themselves. This is great news because it means we can make our own health destiny. Dr. Pelleteir shows us how.Dr. Pelletier did a great job making a very complex topic very easy to understand. He did a lot of research for this book and tied it together in a very compelling and well-written book. If you want to know how you can manage your genes for better health and longevity, this is the book for you.I was fortunate to get an ARC of this book directly from the publisher.
This book is a little deep for a non-medical person. Does not give you many solutions to change the DNA
