Buy this!!!!! I just finished reading it (and it was delivered like 3 days ago)! There were times I was crying because it was so relatable (those precious kid/parent moments) and I also would laugh out loud at other parts. Clint does an awesome job of story telling that make me want to hear more. The way the moments of life are recalled, put me there like I was someone watching the whole scene played out. I probably have an advantage because my children are 4 and 7; very relatable!! You should buy this book for any young parent(s) in your life...or yourself! You’ll laugh and realize you’re not alone. Thanks for sharing your life Clint! Oh, and can I have some of the patience Mel has? Cuz she seems to really know when it’s appropriate to yell and when it’s not 🤗
Like any parent, I have hardly any personal time, but I managed to finish this book in 2 nights, starting the day I got it out of the mailbox. Wonderful book. It is funny, I laughed many times. It is also poignant. I cried like a baby twice. That is what has actually stuck with me longer. It is wrapped in humor, but the author is talking about deep things... I was confused about the title and what the book would actually be about. The book covers all of the "mistakes" he feels he has made as a husband and a father. I think it actually might serve to help some people out in their marriage and parenting journey, as words of understanding, warning, and wisdom. But that said, most of all, it is fun, because he is an entertaining writer...and as someone with no personal time, what I read had better be fun. And this is. The book does not contain his now famous diarreah in a gas station story, sadly. That's okay, still is a 5/5, it's a wonderful read.
This book was so honest, and relatable! I read it in one night. I laughed, cried, had to run to the bathroom so I didn’t pee my pants from laughing, and cried some more. Although I’ve been married for a while, and have 6 kids, there were still so many “ah ha!†moments for me! I want to recommend this book to every couple, new and old- but especially every couple who is about to have a baby. I think this will be a staple in baby shower gifts. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to write this book for everyone!
I laughed...and cried a little too. I’m SO glad to know that some of the experiences/struggles we go through in our home are just things that happen to normal people. I don’t normally interact with other parents (usually because I think I am going to sound like a miserable parent), so it was awesome to actually relate to someone and their experiences even though I don’t know the family personally. I’m sure I will be reading it again!
Recommend this book to every married couple. This book is relatable in every single chapter. I cried during certain chapters, although the entire book is funny, because my husband and I have been there in the exact same situations, same arguments many times. If you would rather read a book that is not a self help book that gives you 101 steps on how to stop being yourself and rather one that makes you feel normal for stupid fights and hilariously accurate thoughts concerning your children - get this, read it and then ask your spouse to read it, if they are reluctant withhold any type of physical contact and just repeatedly bring up the book and ask what chapter they are on.....
Currently hiding in the bathroom, taking an overly long dad version of a "bathroom break", all just to finish reading this book! Totally bought it for my husband for Father's day but I started reading and couldn't put it down so now I'm running from room to room to try and hide the secret. It's funny and informative and makes me feel a bit more sane as I get through the crazy toddler years. It's accurate in parenting and life and I would recommend you buy it, read it and share it without hesitation!
Easy and delightful reading; Mr Edwards CLAWS his way out of the marital dog-house with this hilarious and heart-felt compilation of brutally honest parenting essays!! Who is his audience? EVERY PARENT ON THE PLANET. A self-proclaimed "late bloomer", this author has managed to learn important life lessons that well-meaning women can only DREAM of their mate's comprehending. Shout-out to the man who gets it, and to all the wonderful men out there breaking down the bullsh*t barriers of "traditional" parenting roles. Clint Edwards represents the best of the modern-man, husband, and (most importantly) DADDY! Well done.
I bought this book after becoming familiar with Clint's blog posts on the Scary Mommy website. I came to appreciate his writing, as I felt it contributed a very necessary voice to our society, which is the voice of husbands and fathers who see themselves as members of a partnership, rather than people who "help out" their wives and co-parents. What I liked about his book was an opportunity to delve deeper into the journey Clint took (and continues to take) to get to this mindset. He shares lessons learned the hard way, epiphanies, MANY "I told you so!" moments from his wife, and reflections on those "hindsight is 20/20" realizations we all have. Though our backgrounds sound very different, it is amazing how parenting can put people through such similar circumstances. I read a chapter about several atrocious trips to the grocery store with his toddler, then experienced my own almost identical shopping trip several days later. I related to being tight with money, but then being overcome by a moment after splurging on something that is silly to you, but has clearly dazzled your child and will probably be an amazing memory for him or her. I appreciated the cry for the "Mom Bod" to be a thing, because why should dads be the only ones who get an excuse to skip the gym? This book is a lighthearted read and a refreshing perspective from a husband and father. I recommend it and look forward to the next book!
