Just like Missy in the book, my 8 yo daughter was adopted by a single Mom. This book is such a gift to us. My daughter just came alive reading about a little girls whose family is different in many of the same ways ours is. After a recent season of feeling very deeply those differences as she AND her friends have begun questioning them, this book gave us a great anxiety-free opportunity to talk about our situation. Also taking about different kinds of families where Dad’s are “missing†was so helpful as well. The best though was when I asked her what her favorite part of.the book was and she said “it helped me ‘get’ that God really is my Daddy.†I was afraid she might be a little old for the book but she made me read it to her 2 x the first day and read it herself once!
I saw Lisa being interviewed on TV and she was talking about this book. I immediately had several friends in mind, so I purchased 5. 1 for me and 4 for gifts! I have heard Lisa speak and have been blessed to meet both Lisa and Missy. Their amazing story and love for each other shines through in this book! It is so beautifully written and the illustrations are fantastic. Buy several.
This book is wonderfully written from Missy's perspective. As I read it to my granddarling, who lives in a two household situation, she was encouraged. As we read about Missy feeling completely loved by her Heavenly Daddy, my granddarling found hope for when she misses her skin daddy. This book is suitable for children whose fathers have died, children of divorce and those whose daddies work away from home - like in the military. It is bright and upbeat and will make your child's heart soar.
I got this for myself, actually. Sometimes the best reminders about our best Daddy are the ones stripped of all the words to the basic truth. I read it to my sons, but my husband and I let it sink into our own hearts, too. A two-fer!
