As an adult who is developing an interest in drawing, this book has been spot on in helping me get started. It’s brilliant in its detail and ability to describe basics that I had never considered—from which pencils to buy to when to draw with my wrist vs my whole arm to how my sketchbook should be angled and what kind of posture I should have. The style is light and easy to follow and the diversity in the illustrations is just great. It feels like a well organized collage of extremely useful, interesting drawing examples. As a beginner, the instructions started basic enough for me to grasp. The progression in the level of difficulty is good and I feel like with practice I am learning the concepts the author is teaching. Challenging parts of sketching are explained clearly and again, the example drawing are superb. Some of his tips seem like magic tricks.I like how the book can be read and practiced in order. But it is also useful to skip around and find chunks appropriate to what I am working on.The book really is a wonderful reference and I find I am keeping it out on my desk and going back to parts of it again and again to review concepts as I sketch—especially as I try drawing people. Although I am not an experienced artist, I feel this book is excellent for any adult who wants to get started sketching. It has lots of useful theory and step-by-steps to reinforce it. I love it!

This book is great. Robbie Lee has a delightful way of teaching art techniques in a way that is both very down to earth and understandable as well as super informative for both beginners and people who have been drawing for years. Plus, he does it all in a fun style that makes the book wonderful to read. I can't recommend it enough!

It's a nice book for beginner or just brushing up on the basics like it like to do.

Very happy with this book. The author/illustrator presents difficult concepts clearly and with wonderful humor--this book is chock full of whimsy :)

This book reminds me of a basic drawing college class that I took (and enjoyed tremendously) years ago. The attitude the author takes makes a huge difference in the way a non-artist can approach and finish projects. The projects in this book are fairly basic though the subjects are covered in plenty of detail.I especially enjoyed the portions of the book which deal with shading and texture as that is an area where I lack any form of finesse. Also, the idea of drawing in grids was right up my alley. I am a cross stitcher (and have even been a cross stitch designer), so breaking images down into little squares was second nature to me. I had a lot of fun with this portion of the book. Finally, the lessons in perspective were something I really needed and appreciated. I lack depth perception, so the world is pretty much a flat viewing surface for me. Trying to draw that is a little difficult for me to translate. The lessons helped me move what I see to the page more easily than I have before.I was provided a digital advance reader copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley.

Drawing Made Easy: How to Draw from Observation and Imagination by Robbie Lee is a book I requested and the review is voluntary. I found this book had just about everything a beginner would need. How to graph, perspective, types of pencils and the grading of them, how to draw parts of the face, where to put them on the face, and so much more. There is a lot of information crammed into that little book! It is shown in a way that is easy to understand and fun! Drawings everywhere to illustrate the writing. Great book for getting the info out!

Robbie Lee has packed Drawing Made Easy full of information! I love the way he presents the book as well. While his lessons may combine several aspects of drawing at once, they are easy to understand and will have you drawing things you never thought you could in no time. I especially liked his approach to breaking things down into basic shapes and then refining those shapes into what the ultimate outcome should be, and his studies in perspective. All around, this is a fine reference book for new artists, and perhaps more seasoned artists as well. Many thanks to NetGalley and F + W Media for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Writing and photography have always been the two main ways I express my creativity, but every now and then I get the urge to look at books on how to draw or paint. This book is a wonderfully useful one for the beginner drawer. It covers materials needed, and gives very easy to understand, but still comprehensive, lessons on how to draw objects, people, animals, trees, etc. I found the how to draw an eye lessons extremely interesting, and also took special note of tree drawing. I wish I could say Robbie Lee's book has motivated me to start drawing right away, but it actually made me think I need to remember to charge my camera battery. Maybe one day, I'll try to draw. If so, I'll get the paperback copy of this book for sure, because I can't imagine a beginner's drawing book being any more helpful than this one.(Note: I received a free e-copy of this book from NetGalley and the author or publisher.)
