This is probably the best reference book for weaving with round reed available. As a basket weaver that had used predominantly flat reeds, Flo Hoppe has encouraged me to try some new techniques and designs. I love that she provides excellent illustrations and detailed instruction which will walk you through each technique. The basket patterns in the book incorporate these newly learned techniques and will get you started on your first round reed basket and keep you busy weaving with each advancing design.
This is a very thorough book with great illustrations and explanations for beginners and advanced designs for the more experienced. I bought this book two years ago as a beginner and have woven at least 30 baskets of increasing complexity using it's patterns and ideas. If you are serious about wicker basketry this is the book for you.
Some directions are challenging, but if you have taken a class, it is an excellent textbook in advance techniques.
Highly recommend Flo's books for basket makers. She is very detailed in her instructions and lots of cool ideas are included for beginners as well as more experienced basket makers.
I love this book. I recently enrolled into my third basket weaving class and my instructor recommended this book to me. If you are interested in basket weaving I know that you will enjoy owning this book. It has examples of many different weave patterns to incorporate into your basket. I have referred to this book many times when I want to do something new or I am trying to remember how to do a particular weave that I have done in the past. One of the best basketry book for all levels of weaver's needs. Beginners to Accomplished weavers! Great photos for step by step instruction.
instructions some times difficult or incorrect
The book is full of detailed information covering tools, weaving materials, and designs. The various designs are well illustrated at each step in the process. I found the instructions in the book very easy to follow and appreciate that the author takes you through a series of baskets beginning with a small basic basket and continuing on through many baskets--each successive one offering new lessons in design techniques and ending in a large complicated baskets. An improvement would be more color photos.
