I stumbled upon this book through an advertisement which echoed the same values and beliefs I’ve always had, and therefore it resonated within me. I placed an advance order immediately. Dale reveals the secret to a stunning business: relationship. When people are valued, they are motivated, and performance levels peak. Where people are valued, they invest. When people are treated like people – they anchor. Businesses that prioritize people over profit reveal growth that is stunning. God gave us the model. He created us for relationship, and business economics that diminishes relationship will ultimately fail. The greatest investment a business can make is in the individuals who serve it. Are you a business professional? You need this book. Enough said.
I highly recommend this book whether you are big business, small business, or consumer. I think what is talked about in this book can be applied to all and also on a personal level. This book will change how you do business and who you do business with. The concepts and principles are also ones to make you a better person and partner/spouse/parent/friend. I have never read a book that I wanted to share more than this book. I am donating a copy to my library and also having one at my small business for clients to "check out" to read. Dale Partridge has so many good points in this book--my own copy is highlighted throughout. It's an easy read, keeps you engaged and he doesn't ramble on. I seriously hope that this book with be read by many and the concepts adopted because this is what can change business in our country and also personal lives as well.
This book is genuinely one of the best leadership resources I've read in awhile. Between leadership training, seminars, blogging and a weekly leadership podcast I'm constantly reading new resources to try and keep up with the demand. I had intentionally skipped this resource as I felt it was too popular. However, after reading this I felt foolish for leaving this amazing resource out of my library for so long. The thesis is pretty elementary but the profundity of the material should shift a paradigm with businesses everywhere. A must read.
Dale Partridge is the same age as one of my sons. We both read the book at the same time. Dale is wise (the God kind) beyond his years. As an entrepreneur and small business owner of the same company for 15 years this book inspired and motivated me to "keep on keeping on" as his message on business mirrors mine. It is well written and not a long book with a bunch of filler material. Can be read easily on a plane ride from LA to NYC or less. . Applicable, insightful and puts the motives of the heart in check. I am thrilled to know that the next generation can be passed the baton and I can't wait to watch them run their race and finish well before it gets passed on and on!
After growing up in a family of business owners, reading many books like this, tirelessly researching the economy and currently in the process of trying to run my 10th “ethical†company, I can tell you that unfortunately there isn’t very much to be gained here.I was honestly a bit shocked after reading the ending that he still chose to cling to his faith in our current American capitalist economic system, which in my opinion simply isn’t functioning properly anymore, and he is in complete denial of this, much like Governor Jerry Brown and most people over 40.Back when my grandfathers and great uncles owned extremely successful companies there was a code of ethics where business owners paid and treated their employees decently, and unfortunately that code of conduct seems to have died with them. It is almost impossible to run an ethical company and succeed when everyone around you is trying to screw you over and undermine what you are doing, and that is basically the state of business these days. So in my opinion, this book simply reeks of naïveté.
Really great book that offers some pretty unique insight into how companies start, grow and often times lose their way. Easy enough concept to understand but I had really never thought too much about how it specifically happens. In today's quest for more and more return on investment it's critical that business owners don't forget the customers and their employees. Without the care and loyalty of both... any business is certain to fail. Quick read that will leaving you thinking about a lot of things both in your life and in your business. I highly recommend it.
I absolutely loved People Over Profit. It clearly highlights the damaging cycle of business growth, and provides effective ways to avoid falling into the efficiency trap. Dale's writing style is conversational and keeps you engaged with examples, statistics, and stories. The quote pages were a great addition, and are very thought-provoking. I have bought a few more copies to share with our leadership team, and will definitely apply the concepts in this book to how we run our business.
This book restored the faith I have in myself in working for another corporation temporarily. I still have aspirations to own my own business in a the near future but it definitely pulled me from the brink of insanity that I have been on, in the rut I have been in as far as my professional career goes. It solidified a lot of the ideas I have been having for years as far as management goes and will be a GREAT read for anyone who is new to management or needing a refresher course in how to find what motivates their employees. Will definitely be checking back in the future for other works from this author.
